(Haggai 01) Introduction & Overview |
3519 |
Haggai is the first of the "post-exilic" prophets with a message from God to a victorious people who wanted to go all the way with God, had a temple foundation, but had stopped building upon it. The one message with 4 parts announces the encouraging news that the LORD of the armies of heaven and earth will deliver you completely from everything that stands in the way of getting the temple (the church) finished! |

(Haggai 02) Overview of Book Principles |
3519 |
God intends the rebuilding of the temple to be a picture of the people of God. The first message points to that which always causes an incomplete temple: self-seeking. God responded by sending a famine not of water but of satisfaction; all the properity continued but was accompanied by a discontented spirit. What makes the temple glorious is not externals (gold, silver, revivals of the past); it's when Jesus, the Desire of All Nations, comes to dwell in His temple. The final message proclaims that God will make you as a signet ring on His hand that everywhere you go is marked by, "The King has been here". |

(Haggai 03) Chapter 1 |
3519 |
Only one thing will keep me from a completed temple: building for self. God's battle plan for those who build for self is always sending a famine of satisfaction. The human impossibility to rebuild the temple reveals our helplessness to fall down in adoring worship and reveals God's enablement to perform what He requires. |

(Haggai 04) Chapter 2:1-9 Christ the Desire |
3519 |
Though Zerubbabel's temple lacked the precious stones, the Ark of the Covenant, the Shekinah glory cloud, the Urim & Thummim, and the supernatural fire on the altar, the real glory is the Lord Himself. What makes the church corporately or us individually glorious is Christ Himself, not any external or outward adornment. Until Christ becomes "The Desire" of your heart, then you can't become a completed temple. It's not about His gifts, but about Himself. |

(Haggai 05) Chapter 2:10-23 Conclusion |
3519 |
After the Lord is your chief desire, what comes next? A life of blessing, fruitfulness and holiness! No one is made holy by touching holy things; it's only when Christ is the desire of your heart. The negative side is that when Christ is not the desire, then my "uncompleted temple" is the corpse, fully developed in the New Testament in 1 Corinthians 13 as anything done without love as a clanging cymbal to God. |
