(The Heart Of God 01) God Wears the Apron |
The Lord Jesus in John chapters 13 through 17 is giving us a complete picture of the heart of God. In chapter 13 Jesus wearing the slave's apron to wash the disciples' feet blew a hole in Peter's theology that he never recovered from. The footwashing is an act of hospitality for refreshment. The Lord must first "wear the apron" to refresh us before we can go out to serve others. |

(The Heart Of God 02) God Is For Us |
Jesus had a million reasons to be troubled, yet He was stirred over Judas. The loving heart of Christ stretching out for Judas shows how long His arm really is. Jesus always does His best even to those like Judas who keep saying no. Jesus had already seen the worst in Peter and wasn't troubled. Aren't you glad that the very worst in you does not stand in the way of God's perfect plan in your life? |

(The Heart Of God 03) Christ Is Everything |
Philip was not satisfied in Jesus. Up to John 14, Philip had understood Christ as the theme of the Bible, as the source of everything, and as the hope of all mankind. Philip had to learn, like we do, that when one finally puts his eyes on Christ, he will have a satisfied heart and mind. |

(The Heart Of God 04) Lordship, Friendship & Fruit |
Every step forward in the lordship of Christ is a step forward in the heart of God. The crowning act of lordship is death being abolished. Friendship is the consummation of lordship and fruit is the consummation of friendship. Trust is never an issue among friends; people struggle with trust because God is a stranger. |
