II Peter |
(II Peter 01) Introduction; Grow |
4501 |
Ed introduces the epistle of 2 Peter by showing the intended design as a safeguard against error and false teaching: the life of God, the progressive revealing of Christ in Scripture, the character of God, and the hope of Christ's second coming. The key verse of this epistle is 3:18 is grow, an all inclusive safeguard against error. The hope of the Christian who's growing in the knowledge of Jesus is that he's safe as a baby in its mother's arms. |

II Peter |
(II Peter 02) Chapter 1:1-11 Introduction (Continued) |
4501 |
The first safeguard God has against false teachers and the spirit of error is the life of God--God Himself in you. To the degree you have faith (which is received as a gift), you have everything! Christian growth starts off with everything Peter lists, just like a newborn has all its parts (eyes, toes, etc.). |

II Peter |
(II Peter 03) Chapter 1:15-21 |
4501 |
Faith comes by a revelation of Christ through the Bible. The Spirit of God initiates and controls that revelation of Christ that I must see if I'm going to be growing and safeguarded. Faith is easy once you get the revelation. |

II Peter |
(II Peter 04) Chapter 2 Safeguards |
4501 |
God gives us the principle of growth in the settings of the false teachers. 2 Peter 2 cries out, "Let me show you how much you have going for you!" The main point is that from a human level, we cannot identify a false teacher (whose characteristics we share too) nor a righteous man (Lot is set forth as our paradoxical example). God is so faithful to know the heart and ultimately judge the false teacher and deliver the godly. |

(II Peter 05) Chapter 3 - Conclusion - Hope of the Second Coming of Christ |
4501 |
The three great currents in 2 Peter 3 are eternity, patience, and character. The Second Coming is not the point but the illustration. God is weaning us away from material things and has determined that we will become what we believe. My hope for living in eternity is the patience of God. |
