Habakkuk |
(Habakkuk 01) Introduction to the Singing Faith |
3515 |
The crisis in Habakkuk is a person one in the prophet's heart. The theme is the power of suffering (or struggling) faith; "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief." The prophet's questions revealed a heart that had a low view of God; God answered his heart by a revelation of Himself. |

(Habakkuk 02) Chapter 1: Frustration |
3515 |
Habbakkuk's faith was unclear and frustrated because he was trying to line up the ways of God with human logic. Ed shares 6 wonderful principles about things that are hard to understand, such as realizing that the burdens of my heart are from the Lord, God is active, and God's character is a resting place for everything God does. God has a perfect timetable for all His promises that tests our faith by all of this. |

(Habakkuk 03) Chapter 2: Faith |
3515 |
The great truths of Habakkuk chapter two are God's assertions "I am working" and "It will come". Humble faith leads to life but pride contains the seeds of destruction that are actually self-destructing. NOTE: The message only contains the first 57 minutes. |

(Habakkuk 04) Conclusion: Song |
3515 |
How do I get from frustration (Habakkuk chapter 1) to a song of triumphant faith (Habakkuk chapter 3)? It's through the simple step of faith (chapter 2). Ed shares four reasons why the prophet could sing a triumphant song, such as God's unchanging nature, God's redemptive dealings and joy being independent from circumstances. |

Haggai |
(Haggai 01) Introduction & Overview |
3519 |
Haggai is the first of the "post-exilic" prophets with a message from God to a victorious people who wanted to go all the way with God, had a temple foundation, but had stopped building upon it. The one message with 4 parts announces the encouraging news that the LORD of the armies of heaven and earth will deliver you completely from everything that stands in the way of getting the temple (the church) finished! |

(Haggai 02) Overview of Book Principles |
3519 |
God intends the rebuilding of the temple to be a picture of the people of God. The first message points to that which always causes an incomplete temple: self-seeking. God responded by sending a famine not of water but of satisfaction; all the properity continued but was accompanied by a discontented spirit. What makes the temple glorious is not externals (gold, silver, revivals of the past); it's when Jesus, the Desire of All Nations, comes to dwell in His temple. The final message proclaims that God will make you as a signet ring on His hand that everywhere you go is marked by, "The King has been here". |

(Haggai 03) Chapter 1 |
3519 |
Only one thing will keep me from a completed temple: building for self. God's battle plan for those who build for self is always sending a famine of satisfaction. The human impossibility to rebuild the temple reveals our helplessness to fall down in adoring worship and reveals God's enablement to perform what He requires. |

(Haggai 04) Chapter 2:1-9 Christ the Desire |
3519 |
Though Zerubbabel's temple lacked the precious stones, the Ark of the Covenant, the Shekinah glory cloud, the Urim & Thummim, and the supernatural fire on the altar, the real glory is the Lord Himself. What makes the church corporately or us individually glorious is Christ Himself, not any external or outward adornment. Until Christ becomes "The Desire" of your heart, then you can't become a completed temple. It's not about His gifts, but about Himself. |

3519 |
After the Lord is your chief desire, what comes next? A life of blessing, fruitfulness and holiness! No one is made holy by touching holy things; it's only when Christ is the desire of your heart. The negative side is that when Christ is not the desire, then my "uncompleted temple" is the corpse, fully developed in the New Testament in 1 Corinthians 13 as anything done without love as a clanging cymbal to God. |

Hosea |
(Hosea 01) Introduction to the Minor Prophets & Hosea |
3501 |
The Minor Prophets as a whole are "remnant books", have triumphant conclusions, and move towards consummation by emphasizing Christ's Second Coming. Hosea is a book about brokenhearted love on an earthly level with Hosea and his unfaithful wife and on a heavenly level with the LORD and unfaithful Israel. Hosea uses strong, shocking language of whoredom to drive home the point of the filthiness of sin. |

Hosea 4-13 depicts the enormity of the sins of Israel because of the severity of God's judgment. His judgment fell on all three parts of creation. God works as a moth or a lion when it's needed. God's severe judgment is finally illustrated by the graphic descriptions of the slaughter. |

One of the strongest passages on the judgment of God (reaping the whirlwind in Hosea 8:7) reveals a principle of life. The birdseye view of chapters 11-14 is upon the love of the Lord. God's persistent love is one that keeps on loving in the face of persistent unresponsiveness in man.

3501 |
Israel is a type of Christ (Hosea 11:1) in suffering, exaltation and as a channel of redemption. God calls to repentance by comparisons and contrasts in order to humble us. Chapter 14 summarizes the whole book in the wonders of God's transforming love through restoration. Restoration is simple, complete, by pure grace, greater usefulness, and a mighty miracle of God. |

Israel had turned from reality to religion, misplacing the Lord (chapter 8), rejecting God's messengers (chapter 9), and producing fruit only for themselves (chapter 10). The heartbeat of God through Hosea is His love that is in turmoil to give them up yet justly deal with their sin. Our hope for returning to the Lord is His first turning to us. The deeper the plunge into sin, the more God's lovingkindness is glorified in the restoration! |

(Joel 01) Introduction: Sovereignty of God |
3503 |
Joel is the most complete summary of the sovereignty of God in the Bible. Joel emphasizes LORD, God's more personal and redemptive name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Prophecy has not only an immediate fulfillment and ultimate fulfillment, but a present tense fulfillment as an age-abiding principle. God has an intimate rule for those who want Him to. |

3503 |
The locusts are a picture of God's dealing with judgment to men to bring about repentance. When men will not listen to God's quiet tones of tender mercies, then He speaks in loud tones of severe judgment. God "raises His voice" because it leads to repentance. These locusts show the greatness of God who uses tiny insignificant creatures in order to achieve deliverance. |

Joel 3 is seed form of the final great battle of Armaggedon in Revelation 19 when God finally wins the decision over His enemies. Malachi |
(Malachi 01) Introduction |
3523 |
The book of Malachi serves both as an ending for the Old Testament and an introduction to the New Testament. Unlike all other prophets who dealt with an external crisis (i.e. invading armies), Malachi deals with a crisis that is internal: God hasn't spoken in a long, long time. Through the prophet God speaks personally and directly to His people in a severe tenderness to answer the whispers of the heart. |

3523 |
What happens in the heart of God when His people begin to grow formal and mechanical? The first heart whisper God addresses is holding His love in suspicion. The way God dealt with their brother Esau in hate pointed ahead to that judgment that fell upon the Lord Jesus on the cross. The second heart whisper that every heart priest is vulnerable to has its symptoms of joyless service in the work of the Lord. |

The second whisper of the heart troubling the people of God centered upon a broken relationship to God. The goal of ministry is the pleasure of the LORD but the work became a burden because the Lord's work became "their work". The third heart whisper involved treachery in family relationships. Whenever we have conflict with another, our problem is not that person but with Jesus. If we're right with the Lord, we'll be right with man. |

Micah |
(Micah 01) Introduction |
3511 |
The message of Micah is to give us a hatred for rebellion and a passion for Christ to rule our lives. 4 general impressions of the book are 1) filled with Messianic thoughts; 2) very strong language for social justice; 3) contrasts; and 4) severe judgments predicted. Micah's 3 sermons follow a pattern of sin, judgment and mercy, and by the end of the book, sin is swallowed up in mercy! |

Micah makes plays on words on the 12 weird towns of God's judgment on their sins as mirrors of Israel's own sins that predict coming judgment too. If I'm wrong with God (chapter 1), I'm also wrong with men (chapter 2), given in 5 pictures of the rebellious heart. The mercy of God is in Christ the Breaker. Every impossible situation that God allows in your life is His opportunity for you to know Him as the Breaker. |

Zechariah |
(Zechariah 01) Introduction |
3521 |
The people of God had ceased building the temple not because of rebellion but because of being swallowed up with the busyness of life. If you've ever been discouraged, Zechariah puts his finger on the eight things that can possibly cause a spirit of heaviness in God's people. This book, being the most Messianic book of the minor prophets and "the most New Testament book in the Old Testament", gives the revelation of Christ we all need. |

Before there can be encouragement, there has to be a willingness to be right with God. The first vision points us to Christ always being there; we've got to know in our hearts that God is active.
