Joshua |
(Joshua 01) Introduction |
3201 |
Joshua is first of the "victory books (Judges, Ruth) that are redemptive history telling the simple truth of looking unto Jesus by simple faith. There is no greater picture of Christ in the Bible than Canaan--the land of milk and honey pictures Christ, the life of the land of milk and honey! Joshua is going to tell you how to get out of the wilderness--perpetual sin, defeat and failure--into the life of Christ! |

(Joshua 02) Chapter 1:1-9 |
3201 |
The book of Joshua opens with the great foundational principles of preparation--simple faith always takes the land! All of the experiences of life, all human props being removed (like Moses), and calls to impossibilities (like crossing the Jordan at flood tide) are some of the ways God prepared Joshua, and in principle, prepares each and every Christian. |

(Joshua 03) Special: Judgment on Canaan |
3201 |
The challenging controversial wiping out of the Canaanites--man, woman, child and animal--must be approached first that God always does the best. This ultimate destruction turns our eyes onto the Lord who is a God of mercy (He made room for a Messianic nation to bring salvation to the world). As a God of holiness, sin will not go unpunished. God owns all things and absolutely retains the right to take human life and delegates limited responsibility to government to do the same. God is a God of longsuffering, who waited hundreds of years and gave numerous warnings and object lessons, before executing "His strange work" of judgment. |

(Joshua 04) Chapter 1:10-18 - Borderline Christians |
3201 |
A warning against being "borderline Christians" is another foundational principle of preparation. The borderline Christian is one who selects the good rather than the best; it is one who has stopped hungering after his God. They know all the right answers without actually having reality. As the sacred record shows, the logical conclusion of such a choice was that these tribes were the first into idolatry, and first into bondage and captivity. |

(Joshua 05) Chapter 2 - Conversion of Rahab |
3201 |
Rahab the harlot became the firstfruits of the Gentiles to display the love and mercy of God. The scarlet thread became a covenant seal of her salvation, that when God saw the red, He passed over her house! God accepts "dirty faith" (i.e. Rahab's lie) because He sees the direction of the heart and is a God of grace. The Israelites became missionaries just by living and letting a living God full of power do things for them. |

(Joshua 06) Chapter 3 - Crossing Jordan |
3201 |
There can be no entering of Canaan without first crossing the Jordan. You cross the Jordan practically when you start believing you have already crossed the Jordan potentially in your dear Substitute--Jesus Christ! All eyes on the Ark, for the King will lead the way. Faith doesn't look to anything else but the Lord. |

(Joshua 07) Chapter 4 - Monuments of 12 Stones |
3201 |
God invites every Christian to be a heart Levite, one who stands firm on dry ground and carries the throne high for all to see. The returning waters of the Jordan show the faithfulness of the Lord and no turning back for the Israelites. The monuments of twelve stones served as a missionary monument to show Himself, a reminder of what He had done, and a pledge of all He would do. |

(Joshua 08) Chapter 5 - The Knife, the Blood, and the Sword |
3201 |
The final preparation of faith prior to going in and possessing the land centers upon the knife, the blood, and the sword. The knife (circumcision) expresses inward victory over the sins of the heart as well as a weakening that gives God the glory for victory. The blood (Passover) teaches that you get into the Promised Land the same way you got out of Egypt--by faith's feeding upon Christ, the Passover Lamb. The sword (the Angel of the LORD) points us to the Lord Jesus Christ Himself as commander who must win the battle. |

(Joshua 09) Chapter 6 - Jericho |
3201 |
God's open secret for victory is illustrated by the attack on Jericho. If you can see how God took Jericho, you have all of the keys of living victoriously in Christ! The Christian life is a glorified childhood, one of helplessness and unquestioning obedience. The victory is God's and it is for the childlike. |

(Joshua 10) Chapter 7 - Ai |
3201 |
Ai served as a great warning to the people of God, who had some false ideas about themselves, victory, and the Lord Himself. God won at Jericho (the big battles); only God can win at Ai (the little ones). There is nothing so small in our Christian life that we can combat on our own. God often lets us lose battles that we might win the war; He makes the Valley of Achor (Trouble) a door of hope! |

(Joshua 11) Chapter 7 - Ai (Continued) |
3201 |
Jericho teaches us that the spoils go to the victor (the Lord); we share in that victory only as a gift--by grace! When you go after the spoils like Achan did, you lose both the spoils and your life. Peace is a great spoil of the cross, but Christ alone is the goal. Ai finally concludes by showing us that after the defeat, God restores to greater usefulness! |

(Joshua 12) Chapters 9-10 Campaign for Southern Palestine |
3201 |
We can't be ensnared by Gibeonites (those who try to join the people of God for their own advantage) when we're looking to Jesus. Yet even so, God overrules our sin, bringing blessing out of blunders and hindrances out of helps. He knows how to make these "Gibeonites" to serve us. The miracle of the sun standing still is our doing the fighting in supernatural life. God will always give us enough time to do the will of God without striving. |

(Joshua 13) Chapter 8 - Victory of Faith |
3201 |
Joshua had lost sight of a simple truth that God needed to quicken in his heart again. That simple truth is simple faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, as illustrated by a dead stick (spear) pointed towards heaven. Ai teaches us that the defeats of our lives actually contribute to ultimate victory because of the grace of God. If losing drives you to Jesus, then you come out a winner! |

(Joshua 14) Chapter 11 - Battle for the North |
3201 |
The last battle in the seven year war for Palestine, the battle for the north, lays down 5 clincher principles of victory. Victory was to be continued in the same way it started: looking to God alone. God's people don't need the strength of horses and chariots of men. NOTE: message cut short at 44 minutes. |

(Joshua 15) Chapters 13-22 - Principles of Possession |
3201 |
Possessing Canaan is a grand object lesson about how to enjoy the Lord Jesus Christ. The casting of the lot has to do with resigned contentment--being happy about God's choices for us. There's always more to be possessed, an abiding enemy, and maintaining the possession by an attitude of our will over and over and over again. |

(Joshua 16) Chapters 13-22 - Caleb |
3201 |
The three stories about Caleb tell us what wholly following the Lord means. As a spy he believed God. (You've got to believe God has given you Christ). At 85 years old, he claimed his mountain. (You've got to appropriate Christ). He gave the gift of the upper and lower springs (You become a blessing to others). Caleb acted on what he believed and became a blessing to others. |

(Joshua 17) Chapter 17:14-18 - Children of Joseph |
3201 |
The fifth principle of possessing Christ is illustrated by Joshua's handling of the over blessed sons of Joseph. The blessing of God has dangers that come along with it, such as spiritual pride, passivity, doubt, softness, and fear. To enter in and possess Christ, we must clear the forest, that is, use to the full all that God has given us. Second, we can't ignore the Canaanites, those ugly resisters such as sin that aren't becoming to a "victorious Christian". |

(Joshua 19) Chapters 13-22 - Levites' Inheritance |
3201 |
The marvellous story of the Levites illustrates the clincher principle of possession. God cursed Levi to be scattered among the tribes of Israel, but God turned the curse into a positive blessing! The Levites were last in line but received the best inheritance. The Levites as His firstborn was God's object lesson how much He wants to be a rewarder and the reward to everybody. |

(Joshua 21) Chapters 23-24 - Conclusion |
3201 |
Joshua's final address took place at Shechem, the "birthplace" of Israel--the first place where God spoke to man (Abraham), a place of revelation. The secret of victory is God Himself who is faithful. How may I have victory? By the pure grace of God. Who may have victory? Anyone who chooses it. |
