Psalms of Ascent |
(Psalms Of Ascent 01) Introduction / Psalm 120 |
3309 |
Psalms 120 through 134 are the "psalms of ascent" that God has grouped to tell a spiritual story of ascending in Christ. Psalm 120 stands as the foundation and condition for any such ascent, that is, a dissatisfaction with unreality and a desire to go higher. (This series of messages were delivered in February 1988.) |

(Psalms Of Ascent 02) Psalms 121-124 |
3309 |
The first steps, "level 1", is not a low level of worldliness or carnality but one surrendered to the lordship of Jesus Christ. This group of psalms fasten our eyes upon God who keeps us and ours as we obey, upon the body of Christ, and upon hope that we can live up to our name. |

(Psalms Of Ascent 03) Psalm 125-129 Blessings |
3309 |
These next five songs form one great theme: the blessedness of the one ascending in Christ. He enjoys a marvellous security in the Lord (Ps. 125), a testimony of freedom and burden for others (Ps. 126), a rest in God the provider (Ps. 127), a contentment in all of life (Ps. 128), and touches every experience in life with the throne of God (Ps. 129). "All of life," Ed explains, "becomes a great temple." |

(Psalms Of Ascent 04) The Highest Level of Life: Occupied with Christ |
3309 |
As each set of Psalms of Ascent describe a different elevation of life in Christ, this last set is not occupied with His attributes or His blessings but the Lord Himself. What will my life look like if my heart is occupied with Christ alone? It's a life of continually recognized weakness (Ps. 130), a weaning away from everything other than God for perfect contentment (Ps. 131), God resting in us (Ps. 132), a blessed unity with the brethren (Ps. 133), and blessing the Lord and the Lord blessing us (Ps. 134). |
