| Summary | God has a "problem": He is invisible but wants to be in union with His people, so to accommodate our weakness He gave us pictures. When the children of Israel looked to the picture (the Ark), Mizpah became their graveyard. When Samuel cried out to God in reality at Mizpah, with no pictures of ark or priest, the LORD gave a mighty deliverance! The brass serpent Moses made on the pole was only a "Nehushtan" (a piece of brass) without God. The woman who touched the hem of Jesus' garment teaches us not to throw out pictures but to touch or lay hold of Christ THROUGH the garment. |
